Brantley Dairy

Gustafsons LLC is proud to introduce Brantley Farms, located in the quiet north Florida community of McAlpin. The dairy is owned and operated by brothers Mike Brantley and Stephen Law with help from Mike's family. They proudly produce high quality milk for Gustafsons LLC.

The Brantley Dairy story begins in Melbourne, Florida where Max and Lillian Brantley, Mike and Stephen's parents, started in the dairy business in the 1950s. The dairy was moved to the present location in 1997. The farm covers 250 acres where the family cares for over 300 milking cows and raises all their heifer calves. The cows have the option to either lie in two barns fitted with misters and fans for cooling, or to be out on pasture.

This family enjoys the dairy business, and it shows in the exceptional way they care for their animals. As Mike points out, if you don't take care of the cow - providing her with comfort, proper nutrition and health care - she won't take care of you. On the other hand, cows that are well cared-for provide a good living for their owners.

Mike loves working with the cows, and they respond to his care and management with large quantities of high quality milk. In fact, when the Florida State Department of Agriculture Dairy Division presents their yearly awards for the highest quality milk in the state, Brantley Farm is usually a recipient, and has even reached the number one spot!

As you would expect from the Brantleys, they are conscientious caretakers of the land and the environment. They have invested in a system which best utilizes the nutrients from the cows and the water. The farm is a member of the Suwannee River Partnership, a group dedicated to protecting and conserving the waters of the Suwannee. They have even been recognized for outstanding efforts in this area as recipients of the CARES (County Alliance for Responsible Environmental Stewardship) award. In 2007 the Brantleys were again recognized for their conservation efforts when they were named the Suwannee County Conservation Farm Family of the Year.
